Jack Phalane

South Africa can be a complex place, especially in the fields of commercial and corporate law. Thanks to Jack Phalane, many clients have obtained advice on commercial transactions, mergers, acquisitions and black economic empowerment. A lawyer’s lawyer, Jack graduated from Wits with a BA in 1999, with an LLB in 2001, an LLM in 2002 and most recently an MBA. Jack has been a director of Fluxmans since 2004 and sits as an independent trustee on various empowerment trusts and is chairperson of the Tax Board for the hearing of income tax appeals.

Buhle Duma

Buhle Duma is a DJ. He’s also a legal powerhouse. He first completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in politics and sociology and went on to complete an LLB degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2004. He served articles at Fluxmans and was admitted as an attorney in 2009 with his areas of expertise being commercial litigation and insolvency law. He became a director at Fluxmans in 2010. If he has headphones on, don’t disturb him because he’s working on your matter.

Saul Shoot

If the law is like war, you need cover fire and sniper fire. Saul Shoot is like a guided missile. A graduate from Wits and a Director of Fluxmans since 1997, Saul has a wide range of expertise from Constitutional Law, defamation, Commercial High Court litigation, arbitrations, business rescue, advertising and medicine law. He would have made an excellent psychologist, but you’d be lucky to have him represent you.

Kevin Van Huyssteen

Not all businesses have a smooth ride. Sometimes things go wrong. That’s when you need Kevin Van Huyssteen. An expert in commercial litigation, Kevin has years of experience - starting in Zimbabwe in the late '70s and joining Fluxmans as a Director in 2013. Kevin is at his best litigating in court, dealing with high-level evictions, human rights, property, insurance, landlord and tenant issues, and environmental law.

Lisa Tonini

When you see cranes on the horizon, you can bet Lisa Tonini has something to do with it. A Director of Fluxmans since 2003, Lisa is the go-to person for property law. She has worked on many exciting and diverse projects – Melrose Arch, The Innovation Hub in Pretoria, and the establishment of various townships and sectional title schemes. Lisa is responsible for conveyancing and all property-related transactions - including registration of transfers, bonds, lease agreements, rezonings, and land use applications. She also watches all the development from her office window. Lisa was recently selected by her peers for inclusion in the 10th edition of The Best Lawyers in South Africa for her work in Real Estate Law.

Charles Ancer

Charles started off in politics and lobbying... but we all make mistakes. Fate had a future carved out for him in law, and Charles specialises in corporate, mergers and acquisitions law, especially in the retail, franchise and mining sectors. He has extensive experience in advising domestic and international clients on their South African and African operations. He does all of this while being cool, calm and collected, in the comfort of his office. Charles, a Director of Fluxmans since 2016, has a BA LLB( Wits), certificates in Mining Law and IT Law and a member of the Law Society of South Africa’s tax matters and exchange control committee. And beyond the law, Charles has also written a comedy series for TV - watch this space!

Lionel Dos Passos

Full of wisdom and fascinating stories – that’s one way to describe Lionel Dos Passos. He started out studying a BSc at Wits in 1996 majoring in Microbiology, Genetics and Advanced Biology. He later completed his LLB (with distinction) at Wits in 2001 and commenced articles at Fluxmans in 2002, becoming a Director in 2007. Lionel’s focus is litigation and insolvency and business rescue. He also keeps the balance with a wide range of interests and hobbies including travelling, reading extensively, going to gym and watching Premier League football.

Colin Strime

At a desk cluttered with hundreds of files sits an expert in commercial and corporate related litigation, insolvency laws, business restructure and turnarounds. Colin Strime is one of the leading attorneys in South Africa. He completed BProc degree at Wits in 1979 and was awarded the law society prize for the most outstanding law student. He’s still outstanding and has been a Director of Fluxmans since 2003. Sometimes he finds time to cycle.
